Grump

Dark on one side, over exposed on the other. Blurry all around. Perfect for a blah Monday.

Huge

I had a huge day today. I finally understand something that a lot of people, specifically the husband, have been trying to explain to me for years. Seriously, years.

I finally understand first downs. For real this time.

Huge accomplishment for me here people. Huge.

Eeny, meeny

On Monday of last week I realized that the upcoming weekend would span an extra day. Yay for three day weekends!

I spent the rest of the week contemplating spending the now highly anticipated long weekend in NYC...by myself. It sounded like both a good and a bad idea. Good because I really need the alone time and for the first weekend in months, I had no plans already set. On the flip side, it was a bad idea because, well someone like me should not be traveling anywhere alone these days never mind NYC. Hell, I probably shouldn’t be left home alone for long either.

I tossed the idea around like a bad salad. One minute I was going and searching for hotels and then boom, I changed my mind and was staying home. My pathetic indecisiveness made for a long week.

In the end, I stayed home. Our anniversary is this coming Tuesday and not being able to go to NYC with me due to work and not wanting me to go alone, the husband convinced me that we should celebrate tonight. He apparently has a gift so I wasn’t going to argue!

To be honest, through all of my indecisiveness I knew in the back of my head that I wasn’t going to NYC. By myself anyways. For some reason though, I couldn’t admit it. I continued to let myself think that I might actually go. I guess I really wanted to go. I probably needed to go.

There will be other long weekends… but will my sanity last that long?

Sock Em

I’ve had an obsession with striped, funky socks well before the whole phenomenon started on flickr .  How much of an obsession? At the moment, I have 3 drawers and 2 wicker baskets full of them. Thats a lot, I know, but why should I be stuck with boring white socks when I can have stripes and shapes and...and...and...exactly.  In fact, the only reason I have white socks at all is for the gym.

Finding decent striped/funky socks used to be difficult. I would have to search high and low. Apparently I’ve been living under a rock because I just found sockdreams.com. A stipey/funky sock site that has been around for well over a year.

Why why why did I not know about this site before? I won’t dwell on that question too long because since I found the site 3 weeks ago I have placed 5 orders (god forbid I just stop at one). I’m about to go to broke. The picture above displays probably less than half of what I have ordered and received so far. Order #5 has yet to show up. Order # 6 was just placed.

Hey, we’re talking socks here, not hand bags or shoes. I could be spending a lot more money! Never mind, I just looked at my invoices…

Buzzzzzzzzzz

I was sitting in traffic this morning, more traffic than usual because of the OH MY GOD THERE IS SNOW ON THE GROUND WHAT THE HELL DO I DO morons on the road, when I realized something that really disturbed me. I haven’t been to Target in 2 weeks. Very disturbing. Seriously.

On a different, yet similar note, I’ve only been to Starbucks once in the past 14 days. That one time being a Sunday morning and was completely necessary in order to survive. I swear.

Now, I haven’t exactly kicked the caffeine habit. In fact, I’m oh so very far from kicking it to the curb. I’m still averaging 3 to 4 cups of tea a day and there have been a few rough days that required a few Red Bulls. A few as in 3.  But its a start. At least the savings is immediate. Tea and Red bulls are not nearly as expensive as spending $5 - $10 on coffee every day. Insane.

WFH

WFH (working from home) would be the subject line of pretty much every email in my inbox this morning. Thanks to my lovely boss, it was also the subject of the first email I sent today. I guess all my wine induced twitching worked; It snowed but I didn’t have to deal with driving in it. I guess that means I’ll be twitching every night before it snows. Or not.

Its been a while since I’ve worked a full day from home. In fact, I don’t recall doing so in the 2 years we’ve lived in this tiny closet condo.  It was creepy. I apparently live in a pretty populated area but from the dead silence in the middle of the day I was pretty sure I was in the boonies. If there wasn’t snow on the ground I would expect to see tumbleweeds rolling around.

Now yes, I’m glad that I didn’t have to drive in the snow today but at the same time, I don’t have a single desire to work from home again anytime soon. Its just too quiet and well, eerry.  Unlike some people, I need people, noise and other office stuff around.  In the end, I managed to get more done than I would have in a normal day, which was nice but still, I rather be in the office. Wait, so am I actually excited to go into the office tomorrow.?  Weird.

As If

The countdown to Friday starts again. And, as if Mondays don’t suck enough, tomorrow we get the extra bonus of snow. Rush hour snow! Love it! Love it! Love it! Love it!

Twitch to the twitch twitch twitch.

Yes, I had wine with dinner.

No, I don’t feel like finishing this right now.

I really need to start these posts earlier in the day.

I have a problem with the way you behave

Whats the deal with it still not being Friday? Also, whats the deal with my parents and my brother neglecting to call me when grandmother was taken to the hospital the other night?  No one has a problem calling when they need or want something but calling me when my poor, lovely grandmother has to be rushed to the hospital is apparently too much of a hassle. Bitter? Yes but only because my grandmother is fine.

My list of family “dramas” is growing at an alarming rate these days.  I’ve vaguely mentioned this before when I decided to skip town for Thanksgiving and since then things have continued to get worse. I’m constantly finding myself in a heated argument with either my mother or my father. All because I dared to have a different view of a certain situation (cryptic, yes, sorry). These arguments are starting to make my teens, a time when I had a constant sore throat from arguing with my parents, look easy ( I didn’t cause my parents a lot of disciplinary problems back then but good grief did I like to argue) .

The arguments with my parents are so common these days that they are starting to seem routine like.  Someone will initiate a call most likely to simply say “Hi.” My Mother/Father will mention the latest news on the “situation.” I’ll ask what they are doing about it and boom! They go into defense mode and the yelling begins. I’ll sit there and listen for 5 minutes or so while I’m told that I have no clue about life or what the real world is like because...because I don’t have kids. I wish I could go into specifics because me not having kids has NOTHING to do with the situation. Nothing. Zip Zilch. Zero. Them throwing things at me is simply out of anger because I don’t agree with how things are being handled.  When I finally hang up after telling them that I’m not going to listen to them insult me over and over again I can expect a phone call from my brother thanking me for making his life even more annoying (I have to admit that the evil older sister in me laughs a little when he calls). Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Depressing huh?

I think I need to change my cell number and forget to tell them for a while. Mean? Yes but I need a break.

9 minutes ‘till Friday.

Is it Friday yet?

I would love to write a lot here tonight but I just spent the last few hours updating Kev’s resume for him which means that I’m not really in the mood.

Oh, one thing. Did you know its only Wednesday? I thought it was Thursday ‘till about an hour ago. See what happens when I don’t have my normal amount of caffeine? Sad. Very sad.

Newbies

I’m getting annoyed with all the New Year “newbies” at the gym. I know, how rude!  I fully understand that I should be all “good for you” and for the most part, I am. However, there are a few people who just need to learn a little gym etiquette. Specifically the newbies who refuse to wipe down the machines. It isn’t all that difficult, they’ll even burn a few more calories while at it!  Oh! I can’t forget the ones who talk on their cell phone while running.  Actually, now that I think more about it, these people (yes, I have witnessed more than 1 person do this in the last week) probably are not newbies and I might be a little jealous over this one. If I tried to talk on my phone while running I would fall flat on my face. And no, I’m not talking from experience.

Or am I!?!?!?!

No. No I’m not talking from experience
